Robert Rosen, President and CEO of City Lumber Corporation & Millwork, is well known for his business acumen and long-standing community service.
City Lumber Corporation was founded in 1937 and Robert joined the firm in the early 1970s after obtaining his degree from the University of Alberta. True to the concept of a family business, he worked in each area of the company to develop an in-depth understanding of every aspect of operating a lumber business.
Robert has been deeply immersed in the economic, academic and cultural life of Edmonton, Alberta and Western Canada. Throughout his career, he has had a major role in building the business community in Alberta and in northern Canada. He has served the Edmonton Economic Development Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Alberta Economic Development Authority, the University of Alberta Board of Governors, the Edmonton Art Gallery (now the AGA), the Art & Design in Public Places Board and the Canadian Diabetes Association.
Robert has been honoured for his many business accomplishments and community commitments, including: City of Edmonton Ambassador Award (2000), Canadian Diabetes Association Achievement Award (2003), Alberta Centennial Medal (2005), Dr. Charles Allard Chair in Business, Grant MacEwan University (2006), University of Alberta Alumni Association Award (2007), University of Alberta Association Recognition Award (2008) , the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal (January 2013) and the Mayor’s Award for Sustained Support of the Arts (April 2013).
Robert’s approach to leadership, founded on the principle of empowering and inspiring others to succeed and give back to their communities, has been a major part of the success of City Lumber. It’s a philosophy that has earned Robert respect and renown among his peers in Western Canada.
